Exchange Traded Funds

The total amount of money invested in Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) has quadrupled over the past five years. There are now a number of ETFs that can be traded on the Australian Securities Exchange, as well as many more that are traded easily online in other markets (specifically the US markets). Some of the reasons for the popularity of Exchange Traded Funds are:

low fees and transaction costs.
ETFs allow investors to invest in a selection of companies grouped together; an entire index or sector.
They offer excellent liquidity, flexibility and control over your investments.
They are traded like shares and offer vastly superior returns to managed funds
ETFs still pay dividends so you can still earn income like with a stock
ETFs allow you to trade with a stop loss. You can use stops to get you out automatically if the investment doesn’t work, therefore you are limiting your risk.
